About Us

The National Faith and Justice Network took root in 2006 when evangelical Christians were compelled by their faith to join hands with a broad spectrum of justice advocates in Boston and New York.  The unexpected union sparked revitalized efforts to end poverty and bring justice to the systems and structures in their cities.

The Boston Faith and Justice Network organized hundreds of Christians to alleviate global poverty by making  fair trade coffee, tea, fruit and other foods more widely available in Boston stores. New York Faith and Justice helped organize a broad spectrum of interfaith communities, community organizers, advocates, and government officials to create the Faith Leaders for Environmental Justice; a new hub of interfaith activity to bring more fresh food and clean up toxic waste in under-resourced neighborhoods.

Likewise, the Oregon Center for Christian Values played a key role in advocating for improved health care in Oregon. Kinetics Faith and Justice (based in Baltimore) continues to organize Historic Black Church clergy across the nation to address injustices embedded in the U.S. penal system.  Similar efforts are underway in Cincinnati where leaders are spreading a vision of a church enlivened through the practical union of faith and justice in their city.

In 2009, these regional movements came together to form the National Faith and Justice Network--a national alliance of regional groups dedicated to uniting Christians around the Biblical call to justice through spiritual formation, education, community organizing, and advocacy. The vision of the National Network is to support the development of Christ-centered organizers and faith-rooted justice movements in every city in the country.
